The Puget Sound Case Study

The Puget Sound is a unique region located on the northwestern part of the United State that is home to 4.3 million people. The region has extensive forest, marine and riparian areas and other ecosystems that provides economic benefit in the form of ecosystem services. The sound is confronted by species decline, degraded water quality and increased flooding due to increasing stressors on the area’s natural capital. Plans are to use ARIES to justify funding mechanisms for salmon restoration and the economic value of flood protection.
