The Maramures Case Study

Maramures Mountains Nature Park is one of the case studies developed by the ARIES partnership with the intent of assessing the economic benefits of protected areas in Romania. The park is located in the Carpathians and covers 115,00 hectares. It provides an estimated flow of benefits of valued at $95,076,824 or $827 per hectare.

Payment schemes for ecosystem services are being investigated, with particular interest for carbon markets.
